It’s my experience that Iyengar Yoga provides you with a personal, go anywhere, maintenance and repair kit for your body, intellect and emotions.
In my classes you will begin by learning the fundamentals of functional physical action in a safe, calm, graduated and engaging way. You will find that physical confidence will build with improvements in mobility, strength, balance and control (and a likely reduction in pain and those troublesome niggles, as many have attested).
That’s fine, and might be where you want to sit with it. However ...
... as you progress and become absorbed in the subject, you will discover that the calm, steady focus and a deepening subtle awareness of body and breath, will develop into tangible, meditative, mental and emotional skills which bring greater resilience, control and clarity. This adds up to a less reactive state and a growing contentment and wellbeing.
Iyengar Yoga is world renowned for it’s therapeutic qualities: As understanding and knowledge is built through applied practice it really does become a means to manage the obstacles and vicissitudes life throws at us and helps us maintain physical and mental equilibrium.
I have been studying and practicing yoga since 1990 and teaching Iyengar Yoga since 1995. I am a Certified Senior Iyengar Yoga Teacher, a qualification attained and maintained by ongoing peer assessment and committed continued study with the masters.
Whatever stage of life you are at, I believe it is always a good time to start - it’s never too late! So I urge you to take the time, make the time ; )
