Jenny Beachum, Tuesdays 7-8am, Vinyasa

Introducing Jenny Beachum, Tuesdays at 7am:

The writer John O’Donoghue said, “When one flower blooms, spring awakens everywhere”. It is at this time of year that a routine dog-walk places you inside a kaleidoscope of colour as jasmine, gardenia & azalea bloom while scent & movement surround you. Cockatoos, rosellas, lorikeets and galahs, just to name a few, are frequent companions in the air and perched on tree branches, fences and patches of grass. Insects flitter here and there with bees enjoying the white clover blooms along the footpath. Walking up Moore Street I reflect on how the yoga space is nestled between the glorious green softness of the escarpment and the sparkling majesty of the ocean. And look - a whale! What a special place to live and practice yoga together.

Juliet Willetts

Juliet teaches hatha yoga, in a style based on the ancient texts and founded by Shandor Remete (Sundernath) (see https://shadowyoga.com/).

For the beginner, this style works with simple but challenging preparatory sequences designed to remove energetic blockages and link movement and breath. These preliminary sequences, called ‘preludes’ are taught as a foundation, and ‘nrtta sadhana’ (pure dance) assists in uncovering the natural rhythmic movement of the limbs and setting up the correct mindset.

    Alyson Johnson

Classes are based on the Ashtanga Yoga method which I have practiced regularly for many years after discovering my teacher Eileen Hall in 2001. I have found this style of practice helps build strength and support good mobility.

Although my style of class is better suited to active individuals with some yoga experience, my teaching style offers a wide range of options for individuals to practice. As is traditional, we always begin with sun salutes. These dynamic movements are designed to get the body moving and breath flowing. Next, are standing postures and bringing attention to the principles of alignment and finding stability in the body and calmness in the breath.
