Introducing Jenny Beachum, Fridays 5:30pm - 6:00pm:
The writer John O’Donoghue said, “When one flower blooms, spring awakens everywhere”. It is at this time of year that a routine dog-walk places you inside a kaleidoscope of colour as jasmine, gardenia & azalea bloom while scent & movement surround you. Cockatoos, rosellas, lorikeets and galahs, just to name a few, are frequent companions in the air and perched on tree branches, fences and patches of grass. Insects flitter here and there with bees enjoying the white clover blooms along the footpath. Walking up Moore Street I reflect on how the yoga space is nestled between the glorious green softness of the escarpment and the sparkling majesty of the ocean. And look - a whale! What a special place to live and practice yoga together.
The gift of spring is that each time we step outside we are greeted with sights that are spectacularly different and remarkable. It reminds us of the beauty and hopefulness of new beginnings in each moment, each morning, each time we turn up to our mat. This isn’t to say that we should discount past experiences, but rather it is an opportunity to practice acceptance, to purposefully keep what serves us and let the rest go to make space for all that is possible. It takes all the stages of growth to enable a plant to bloom.
This intention will form the foundation of classes that I will teach in the coming weeks. My 60-minute vinyasa classes always offer a well-rounded, balanced practice with modifications and extensions to suit your energy level on the day. Inspired by nature, we will move together to gently awaken and energise our bodies and minds to establish lightness and motivation for life in the big wild world. This will include accessible backbends, twists and balances woven through our flow. As always, yoga practice offers an invaluable opportunity to connect to ourselves, each other and the natural world around us. I am so pleased to be joining you here at MSYR alongside such experienced and caring teachers and I look forward to seeing you in class soon.
